Our Team

David Simpson, Chairman

David Simpson, a graduate in Economics, established the Petplan insurance business in 1976 and took it to market leadership in the companion animal sector, building gross premium income to more than £40 million. He managed a sale of the business to Allianz Cornhill in 1996 at a multiple of 26 of operating profit. He remains Chairman of the highly regarded Petplan Charitable Trust.

Dr G Mark Johnston, Managing Director

Mark Johnston qualified as a vet from the University of Cambridge and worked at Rossdales equine referral practice in Newmarket before returning to Cambridge to take a PhD then a post-doctoral project as a Wellcome Trust Research Training Fellowship in Clinical Epidemiology. Working on this project he realised the importance to vets of having instant access to up-to-date clinical information, especially given the increasing focus on evidence-based veterinary medicine. He joined Vetstream in 1995 becoming Managing Director in 2007.

Outside work, Mark tries to balance his female household of a wife and three teenage daughters by taking his three year old Cocker Spaniel, Simba, for long walks. He also loves fly fishing though opportunities to indulge this hobby in East Anglia are hampered by a relative lack of rivers!

Lauren Billman, Subscriptions Manager

Lauren joined Vetstream as Customer Services Manager in 2004. With 19 years' experience in customer service she puts her skills to good use in her latest role as Subscriptions Manager. She talks to worldwide institutions, resellers and subscribers to Canis, Felis, Lapis and Equis daily to ensure they are happy with the services, assisting them with queries and exploring new opportunities for Vetstream.

Outside of work, she spends time with her young children, and enjoys baking and knitting. She has just welcomed a new member of the four legged variety called Gus to her family and he is already a valued member of the Vetstream team.

Nicola Saunders, Webpartner Manager

Nicola has a background in Marketing and IT. She holds a CIM Certificate in Marketing, a Diploma in Web Design and has recently completed certified courses in Responsive Web Design and JavaScript. Nicola uses her skills and experience to design and develop websites and email marketing programmes for veterinary practices and related organisations, and provides ongoing consultancy and support.

Outside work, Nicola enjoys reading historical fiction, Xbox gaming and rock music. She lives with her lovely but neurotic cat, Freda.
